Topic > The Current Role and Future Prospects of Computers

Computers represent a significant and vital aspect in the modern world across all education and occupations. Society depends on countless computer resources and applications to assist in daily tasks. When I first signed up for Chaminade's online summer computer science course, I was miles away from having an idea of what classes or curriculum would accompany the new experience. Since I had never taken an online course before this, I was a little nervous about the negative possibilities that might appear during the course. Questions and thoughts about not having a teacher to explain anything were plaguing my head. What if something went wrong? What happens if my computer crashes? However, as time passed, the class became surprisingly easy and my worries accumulated their effects and disappeared from my head. One feature that played a positive role in this lesson was the ability to plan my time with assignments and deadlines. As a result, all dates were met without too much trouble. Starting the lesson unit at the beginning of the week instead of procrastinating was very beneficial in the long run. If I didn't start the unit early, I would find that I would get stressed and that my work wasn't meeting my personal standards. Say no to plagiarism. During the first unit, I was able to brush up on the basic facts about what this complex technology can offer users. Computers are used to interact, track records, format documents, draw, create illustrations, and provide important information. They can be used to assist with data, research and training worldwide in any profession. Along with these facts, I was taught about the internals and different parts like the motherboard and processor. In the second unit, the knowledge of how Internet connection requires different hardware and services made its way into my mind. The ISP, an Internet service provider, is responsible for providing the Internet to a computer. If it were not taught in this course, this understanding of computers would be a complete and completely foreign concept. In unit three I learned about different productivity programs. For example, I was taught word processing programs, note taking programs, presentation programs, database programs, spreadsheet programs, and graphics editing. These software programs are crucial to my education. In unit four I learned about security and all the threats that could compromise different components of my computer. There are some threats like hackers, human errors, and weather issues that I need to make sure I keep my eyes focused on. For example, hackers might send scam or phishing emails to get into your computer. They may try to implant viruses into your software. With human errors, I could accidentally delete important files. On the other hand, my computer could go through heat waves and melt, get too cold, or it could rain. Finally, in the fifth unit, I learned about digital files and videos. I never had any idea what could be achieved with simple digital editing. At Chaminade I can apply my new knowledge to my work. Technology is extremely important at this school and therefore advanced knowledge of computers can enhance my learning. After this course I became more familiar with sheets.
