The consequence decided the person's action. Actions are justifiable based on the results of that action (Gregory, S. 2018). The more an act can produce positive consequences, the better. As mentioned above, I was under enormous pressure to focus on getting the job done, otherwise my managers would not be satisfied with my performance and I might receive a poor rating in my evaluation. I may even be denied a promotion as this is an important project for my team and the failure is evident at all levels. My actions were more oriented towards consequentialist ethics. This approval was supposed to bring further order and actually brought enormous new business to our plant in the following months. What could have happened if we hadn't gotten approval, could have been that we would have lost all opportunities to get more orders and the operations team could have run out of new orders. This could potentially lead to poor performance resulting in job losses. The ethical dilemma was subject to modification or not. If I had resisted this change, my job was at stake and my company could have missed out on the right opportunities resulting in job losses. If I had chosen the modification option, what would happen if the product failed on site due to the demanding conditions and the consequence could be damage to another tool or even cause loss of life. These are electrical protection equipment and when a fault occurs these tools must function accurately. What happens if they don't work properly and the consequences can be disastrous. But as I thought about it, I realized that this was an almost impossible event and therefore the possibilities are very remote. These products are sturdy and, in most cases, will not fail. I was faced with an ethical dilemma situation and had to decide to make the changes. According to Teleological Theories the concept of goodness was fundamental. Say no to plagiarism. Teleological ethics is further divided into 1) Ethical Egoism, 2) Utilitarianism, and 3) Eudalmonism. My above situation falls under utilitarianism where the action is defined as good since it maximizes the welfare of the maximum number of people who could be affected by the actions, i.e. loss of income and people losing their jobs. But when I read about eudalmonism which is defined as “that an action is good if it results in the achievement of goals along with the well-being of human beings” (Business Jargons, 2018). In other words, my actions to achieve the goal of achieving success at work and also meeting the requirements of getting approval to get more order describes my action according to this theory or should I say that the fear of losing the work was the reason for listening to my manager. The weakness of teleological ethics on practical problems suits my situation well. Works Cited Business jargon. (2018). Eudaimonism: definition, meaning and examples. Gregory, S. (2018).
