In the last two months I have attended two concerts for my musical relationship. The first concert was Maximus Musicus Visits the Orchestra which was held on 3 June 2018 at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). The second concert I attended was Harder Than This, the musical which was held on 8 July 2018 at KuAsh Theatre, TTDI KL. Both of these concerts were in stark contrast. As far as entertainment value, one was funny and the other was serious. Maximus Musicus Visits the Orchestra is fun and entertaining, while the second musical, Harder Than This, takes on a more serious and darker tone. Maximus Musicus Visits the Orchestra (MMVTO) serves as an early introduction to the orchestra for little ones. It's a fun way for kids to explore the different musical instruments of the orchestra just like Maximus the mouse did. Most of the adults in the audience also seemed to have a lot of fun as they acted out some of the musical movements together with their children. In contrast, the musical Harder Than This is primarily made up of teenagers and young adults for those performing on stage and for the audience. Say no to plagiarism. The musical is actually really disturbing and disturbing as it delves into the theme of depression and suicide. The classical concert I attended is Maximus Musicus Visits the Orchestra. The conductor was led by Gene Chang and the plot was narrated by Datuk Yasmin Yusuff. Datuk Yasmin Yusuf did a great job in narrating the story of the mouse Maximus. He is able to involve and fascinate the audience, mostly young, with his funny expressions. It was really nice to see that the kids in the audience had as much fun as I did. I felt like I had been transported back in time. The story begins with a cold winter night and Maximus Musicus, or Maxi for short, is looking for a warm place to spend the night. Maxi, the mouse ends up sleeping inside a large building, not knowing what he was about to stumble into. His peaceful sleep was soon interrupted by a loud noise. He would soon discover that the loud noise was actually the sound of musical instruments; Maxi had ended up in a concert hall! Here, Maxi's adventure begins when he discovers the different instruments being played while the orchestra was busy practicing for their performance. As a child I had been to the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra many times with my family, but after a while we stopped going. I forgot why we stopped going. As a child I remembered that the concert hall was huge. Everything seems huge to me then. Now, after many years, I was surprised when I saw the concert hall. I thought to myself that it wasn't as big as I imagine it to be. It seems like everything has shrunk. When they arehaving arrived inside the concert hall, there was excited chatter in the air. Everyone was anxiously waiting for the concert to start, especially the children. Everyone was wearing their best clothes. They were dressed in casual and elegant clothes, something in between; not too casual and yet not too formal. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is very strict about the dress code. The dress code included not wearing shorts, collarless shirts, tank tops, sneakers, sports clothes and slippers. However, school uniform is permitted for students. The artists, on the other hand, looked good in their attire. They had a black color theme. They just looked fascinating. Once the concert started, the chatter quieted down. Everyone was respectful towards the musician during their performance. People understand that it is basic etiquette not to talk while the concert is in progress so as not to distract other people watching the concert and the performers on stage. This is my first time watching a musical. I can say that for the first time it wasn't a bad experience at all. The concert hall was significantly smaller than the large Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Even though it was small, it felt more personal since the seats were so close to the stage. I sat in the second row so I was very close to the artists performing on stage. The corridor was dark because it was surrounded by long, high curtains. There was no dress code for this concert. People were free to dress however they liked. The performers changed their clothes from time to time to fit the part in different scenes. Another comparison between the two concerts is that the audience is much smaller for the musical than for the orchestra. In the classic concert, they played a total of eight songs during the entire concert. The program included, among others, pieces such as Mozart's energetic Abduction from the Seraglio, Beethoven's iconic Fifth Symphony and Rossini's Finale from the opera William Tell, probably best known as the Lonely Hunter theme. Other pieces included Ravel's Bolero, Stravinsky's The Firebird: Infernal Dance, Maxi's Song composed by Olafsdottir, Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op.46: 1. Morning Mood written by Grieg and last but not least Radetzky March by Strauss. Live Concert Review: Chamber Music at the Cathedral The best thing in life is the experiences we encounter. There are extravagant experiences that we can brag about to others, and then there are worthwhile experiences, the small, but personal, experiences that are deeply meaningful to us that others may not enjoy in the same way that we do. Useful experiences allow us to connect with people we may or may not know and for me these experiences should be shared with others and not taken for granted. I never got to attend a music concert, much less a classical music concert, until I started studying music in college. I was lucky, because some people never had this experience and it was worth it. On Thursday, October 10, 2019, at 7:00 pm, I had the opportunity to attend my first chamber music concert at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock, Arkansas. The concert was conducted by Kiril Laskarov (violin), Stephanie Smittle (vocals) and Carl Anthony (piano) with various types of music composed for famous violinists. The atmosphere was great and the host was very kind and honorable. There was a good size audience and I can say that there were no more than 40 people including children and adults who attended the concert.
