Nowadays, a topic of debate in media culture is the distorted journalistic coverage of political information. Ideological perceptions of bias make it difficult for academic researchers to delineate instances and factors of bias in the media. Therefore, it is crucial to understand how students at the University of Toronto Scarborough perceive political news, analyze it, and create their opinion. It creates a stage where politicians can share their thoughts, outline their agendas, and publicly provide information to their future voters. Even today, broadcast radio occupies a leading position as a major source of information for Canadians. According to statista.com, 76% of Canadians watch television. Playing an important role in society, the debate about media bias creates questions such as: Does media bias exist? Does media bias influence people's opinions and decision-making? Etc. Yet many journalists, scholars, ideologues and politicians have tried to answer these types of questions, there is a gap in this topic of how people perceive information. The experimental design method will be used as a research method for my interviews, which includes using different news articles to test individuals' perception. Particular attention will be paid to the choice of items. I would say that this is the most important moment in the research process, so as not to have problems with the desired conclusion. DelimitationThe delimitation of this research is that I will not conduct a research whether the research participants think that news from different points of view is biased or not. This debate has been analyzed by much research. So, I'm more interested in how people perceive the news. I'll narrow it down to 4 different TV channels (CTV, CBC, GLOBAL and CITY). They are owned by several companies and one of them is public, which means it is owned by the government. The research will be conducted among UTSC students giving the opportunity to delve deeper into qualitative research methods. Furthermore, they are just starting to enter politics and have the right to vote. So, it will give me the opportunity to analyze how they develop their understanding towards the news. Reflection on the research problem Political decisions are vital to the development of the country and in the democratic reality, people must have the knowledge to give their vote to the right person. This research will help the community understand what kinds of challenges they face as they analyze the news they consume every day. Different types of limitations may follow this research. Since the age of the participants is mostly between 18 and 22 years old, it may create problems for them in giving equally evaluated answers to my questions. Another limitation may occur and that is that the results of this research may not show the face of a larger population based on education, living conditions and context.
