The film Life and Debt, was a very interesting film. He touched on a lot of topics that people normally bring up in normal conversation about the Caribbean. I really liked it because it didn't give the perfect image of Jamaica that everyone is used to seeing. It gave you the real Jamaica, it may not be a perfect masterpiece that everyone wants to explore and see, but it must be seen. It was also a little crazy to hear how other countries' choices affected their country so drastically. The fact that they had to import many of their food products because they borrowed money from another country is baffling. Importing food made them lose more money and then all the money went to imported food rather than local food, putting many farmers out of business. So the loan didn't help Jamaica at all, but threw the country into a deeper financial crisis. The loan actually helped the country that imported the goods. Say no to plagiarism. The fact that countries think this is ethical in the first place is criminal. Jamaican women were only paid $30.00 every two weeks, it's horrible. These countries are just trying to exploit Jamaica's need to create jobs, regardless of pay and use. Then, when they started to rebel against the authorities, they simply abandoned the country. They didn't even pay them for the last time they worked. So everyone judges Jamaica to be financially unstable and dependent, but things like this don't help people get back on their feet. The countries that “help” them are actually the worst offenders.
