m Indian Mythology India is a very ancient country, the country which is known in the world for centuries due to this it has been known by many names for example Bharath, Aryavarta, Jambudvipa, Hindustan, Bharathvarsha etc. Many historians believe that the oldest remains have been found from the era more than 55,000 years ago! The Vedas (the oldest Indian scriptures) were composed during the period 2000-500 BC. The Indian subcontinent was distributed along the lines of the Ganges River. The northwestern plains were divided into many dominant states called "Mahajanpadas". Culture, art and literature flourished. There were many ancient scriptures written as the country spread its culture as far south as India. The Gupta Empire was known as the most important for the growth of classical Sanskrit literature, Indian science, medicine and mathematics.
