Topic > Analysis of 20th Century Album Covers - 1626

Music has always had a strong influence on people around the world and there is no indication that this will ever change. There is a huge amount of genres and subgenres, new hits and old classics, songs and compositions for everyone and this number is constantly increasing. It is virtually impossible to listen to every song ever written and almost no one would try to do so, yet every band and every singer would like their music to be noticed. This is why the album cover is an essential part of any music CD, an element of attraction that can lead the consumer to buy a piece of music that he might not even like. Nowadays graphics still exist, as do music stores, CDs and CD covers, but due to the development of technology, more and more people buy music online every year. But let's go back to pre-internet times and look at the CD covers of the late '60s and '70s – decades of revolution in music and graphics, among other things. The two album covers we will see are those of The Velvet Underground, the first album The Velvet Undergound and the cover of Nico created by Andy Warhol in 1967 and the Pink Floyd album Atom Heart Mother by the artistic design group Hipgnosis in 1970. the sixties and seventies were the period of psychedelia, music and images were made under the influence of drugs or in a way that resembled them. Psychedelic art typically had bright colors, geometric shapes, and fractals used together to create an out-of-this-world experience effect. Despite the period in which both covers were made and the type of music both bands played, the album covers chosen are not typical of the era. But this is probably their greatest appeal and certainly the main reason they are the subject of this essay. andy-warhol-banana-velvet-underground.jpg?w=468.
