Our arteries and veins are like flexible tubes, they normally have a nice clean flow, but sometimes our blood pressure can rise when bad things happen to them. Arteries can become clogged, and what happens is like sticking your finger in the head of the tube to make the water splash further, the same amount of liquid has to pass through but now with a smaller hole, so it has to go faster (Tamarkin Ph. D., 2011). Blood pressure is always fastest at the very end of ventricular systole, because the blood gets a big push from the contraction and this speeds up all the blood in the body for a while. Blood pressure is also determined by how fast the heart has to beat to move blood around the body, so higher blood pressure normally occurs when you do a lot of physical activity, are angry or are under stress. The pulse we feel when we touch our wrist or neck is a surge of blood coming from our heart, so when our pulse is faster it means our blood pressure has increased (Cordova, et al..,
