For starters, Aurelia began her ongoing adventure of hiding with her parents in their basement cubicle when the Germans began bombing the city; it lasted about a couple of days. This was probably Aurelia's most pleasant experience in hiding because she had her parents to comfort her and distract her with stories. Another episode of hiding from the Germans occurred when several akzia invaded the homes of children and Jews, but this was only the tip of the iceberg. Aurelia's experiences of clandestinity began to become intense when she hid on the porch of her house in the ghetto. He began to understand the difficulties and challenges that came with hiding and began to feel afraid. Her major hidden event was when she was separated from her parents for about two years and faced constant boredom, loneliness, hunger, and discomfort. In the Szczygiel family she was often treated like a pet: she was only fed and given a place to sleep, rarely noticed and most of the time ignored. Due to many problems with the Szczygiel family's children, Aurelia had to be careful who she interacted with and avoid any visitors. She eventually went from sitting in bed all day to locking herself in a chest for the entire day.
