Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen is a renowned writer whose works are among the greatest in the history of literature. “Austen used wit, irony, and keen observation to promote the literary status of the women's novel and to address the social and political concerns of nineteenth-century men and women.” (cit.) Of all his works, one remains above the others. Originally titled First Impressions when Austen began writing in 1796, when it was published in 1813 the story would be renamed Pride and Prejudice. (cited) Two hundred years after its original publication, the novel still remains one of the most read and influential novels to date. One factor that contributes to the novel's success is people's love for the plot. The story offers a special glimpse into the world of the Bennet sister. Mainly focused on the courtship between Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy which gets off to a rather rocky start due to the fact that when the two first meet they can't stand each other.
