Topic > The Benefits of Institutional Racism in Education…

When a person begins to connect all the dots, they see how the system degrades minority education and promotes white education. The only way to stop this racism and ensure equality for all is to first recognize that it is a problem. Unfortunately nowadays society regards racism as a notable taboo and is often seen as individual cases rather than as a mechanism for instituting ideas and promoting social order. Policies like No Child Left Behind are clear examples of how our government promotes inequality by relying on the system to weed out students who do not perform well on high-stakes tests. These students do not receive the best resources and teachers, so they are unable to succeed in the classroom and on tests compared to their peers. Coincidentally, school funding is based on property taxes. Wealthier neighborhoods have higher property taxes and therefore have more financing. While investigating the demographic of wealthy people, it is not surprising that the majority of the demographic is white. With all this information it is almost impossible to deny that our education system manages and supports racism. The biggest problem comes when people fail to see the institutional racism behind it all. If as a society we fail to recognize the flaws in our education, racism will persist and allow more students to fall into poverty.
