Throughout this essay I will attempt to discuss and analyze the key issues and concepts associated with two of Picasso's most famous works, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and Guernica. I will discuss and explore the cultural, theoretical and conceptual connections between the two works. I chose to look at the works of Picasso, as I believe that his work influenced many artists of the 20th century and today, and has helped shape the art world into what it is today, in every aspect and style of art , from sculpture to typography. Picasso, born in 1881, was greatly influenced by the culture he surrounded himself with, both Spanish and French. One of the best-known figures of 20th-century art, his work is known throughout the world and is one of the most popular works of art today. A progenitor of the Cubist movement, Picasso incorporated many styles into his work and displayed exceptional artistic talent from a young age. Picasso was very neutral during the wars that reigned while he lived, choosing instead to paint his disgust at what was happening. Picasso died in 1973 while his wife Jacqueline and he entertained guests at their castle, but his daughter continues his legacy as a fashion designer. The pieces I chose to look at are from different eras within his Cubist period. I will explore the changes in his artwork and the connections, looking at the influences on a young Picasso and how they shaped his artwork into what it became. The first of the two works I chose to look at is Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (The Young Women of Avignon), painted in 1907. The painting is an oil on canvas and measures 243 x 233 cm. It was originally titled "The Brothel of Avignon". ..... in the center of the sheet ......'Avignon#Gauguin_and_Primitivismhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Picassohttp://www.picasso.com/http://www.artchive.com/ artchive /P/picasso.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Demoiselles_d'Avignonhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guernica_(painting)http://www.moma.org/collection/object. php ?object_id=79766The most famous men in the world.
