TOOLS IN WORSHIP?One of the most debated topics in the church today are tools in worship. Many arguments have been made in favor of using tools, but none are accurate. Those who argue about the tools must ignore the biblical silence and add what God has ordained. The two most used arguments in favor of tools are: there is no condemnation of the use of tools and that tools are used in the same way as a visual aid is in preaching. It can be argued that there is no condemnation of tool worship. This is true. There is no text in the Bible that says “you shall not use tools.” This argument is obviously incorrect because of the parallels of this in the Bible. God told Moses to speak to the rock and the water would flow. God did not tell Moses not to strike the rock. Moses struck him and he was not allowed to see the promised land, but died in the wilderness (Numbers 20:8-11). "As they were eating, he took bread, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, 'Take it; this is my body.' Then, taking the cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them and they all drank from it. And he said to them: «This is my blood of the covenant, which is shed for many»» (Mk 14,22-24). We are commanded to use the fruit of the vine and unleavened bread for the Lord's Supper. We are not told not to use pork and water, but that would not be the Lord's Supper. Mark 16:16 says, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe is already condemned.” It does not say that those who are not baptized are not saved, but it is deduced from the statement that those who are not baptized are not saved. It is not difficult to see that this is a very weak argument. “Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19). If we are told to sing and not to use instruments, then we will not be allowed to use instruments. The biblical parallels demonstrate this. Another argument, and perhaps the best one, states that using tools simply means assisting one's self.
