Advantages of Breastfeeding During my research on the benefits of breastfeeding I discovered many advantages. The longer a mother breastfeeds her baby, the greater the chance that her baby will get the healthful benefits of breastfeeding. The benefits of breastfeeding are numerous for the mother, the child and society. The benefits for a breastfed baby are: Early breast milk is called liquid gold, it is easier to digest, fights disease and changes as the baby grows. Doctors advise breastfeeding mothers to breastfeed their baby until he reaches 2 years of age. The benefits for a breastfeeding mother are: life can be easier, it can save money, it can feel good, it can help the mother's health, it helps mothers miss less work (if they work) and it should help prevent a mother from from getting pregnant. The benefits to society are that breastfeeding women avoid the financial burden of purchasing formula and that breastfed babies are less likely to need excessive medical care as they grow. My goal in this article is to combine the benefits of breastfeeding from the websites I have done my research on. Dowsen, Steven. "Deciding When to Wean." Kidshealth.gov.November 2011. Web. April 21, 2014. In my research I have found that there are many benefits to breastfeeding a baby. Early breast milk is called liquid gold also known as colostrum. It is the thick, yellow breast milk that you produce during pregnancy and immediately after birth. Colostrum is very rich in nutrients and contains antibodies to protect your baby. Although your baby will only receive a small amount of colostrum at each feeding, the amount will still be enough for his stomach. A mother's breast milk continues to change as her baby grows. Colostrum turns into mature milk. A week later... halfway down the page... the breastfed baby can go up to 2 weeks without pooping. My baby is almost 4 months old and has never been sick. My friends who formula feed their babies have had a lot of problems with their babies getting very sick. Since I've been breastfeeding I've almost lost all the weight I've gained since I had him.
