Even during the Renaissance period, just like now, weddings were celebrated lavishly with many elaborate rituals and even street parades among the rich, however, people from the lower classes held a simple ceremony at the bride's home. Funerals took place almost every day, and in the evening the church bells rang to indicate how many people died that day. Weddings and funerals during the Renaissance were for the most part extravagant events, although the poor were a little more modest when it came to celebrating or mourning. Marriages between people of the same social position or a higher social position were common, as it is said that it was not surprising that middle class people, who were traders, married people who owned land, if one looked at it from the point of view of marriages mixed (Weatherly 68).
