introspection of writing Writing means progress, and this is how I think about my writing. No one is born to be a writer but you can always improve to become a better writer. Being an international student, even though I started learning English at a very young age, I still found writing in English very difficult. Especially when I started learning from English professors, I realized that most of the words and phrases I had learned in China were wrong. However, during several years of training in writing in English, with the help of technology and a philosophy professor from whom I learned, I believe I became a better writer. Technology transforms me into a more efficient writer by transforming me from a “pen writer” to a “computer writer,” while Professor Greenberg transformed me into a more precise writer. Studying in America made me realize that the “English” I learned in China was not authentic. I still remember that the first essay I wrote in college was for my mythology class and I got a C+ for that essay. My assistant told me that my ideas were really good but my language was awkward and confusing. I didn't know why. I started learning English when I was four years old and have always been one of the best students in English tests. I couldn't even imagine that my tongue was embarrassing. However, when I started discussing it with my ESL professor and when I started doing more readings in English, I discovered my problem. The problem was that what I learned in China was wrong. In China I learned to "deprive someone of something", but the truth is "deprive someone of something". I didn't know there was a difference between "therefore", "therefore" and "therefore". I also knew that "nigger" was an offensive language because my Chinese teacher told me that it simply referred to... half of the paper... lighter than the previous ones. I began to understand that precision is the core of English writing. With Professor Greenberg I was able to identify problems in my writing and began to move on to a more precise writer. For me, writing is the most difficult thing because it requires me to create something from nothing. However, it is also a very fun process because it triggers deep reflection as I delve into my thoughts. Starting out as an awkward writer, I shaped my writing process and slowly became a better writer. Writing with a computer made me more efficient and progressive, while Professor Greenberg helped me be more precise. I believe now is not the end. I still have many problems with the writing process and I will correct them step by step. I believe I will become a better and better writer in the future. There's never enough better.
