Almost every individual knows that excessive global warming has a negative impact on the planet and will harm many of the organisms on it. But what exactly is global warming? In general terms, global warming is the increase in global average surface temperatures. Global warming is caused by a process known as the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect occurs when greenhouse gases such as water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and chlorofluorocarbons (also known as CFCs) form a layer over the atmosphere that prevents radiated sunlight from escaping from the atmosphere. As the radiated heat becomes trapped, it bounces back and remains on Earth. About 31% returns to space, 20% is absorbed by the atmosphere and the rest goes to the surface (land) and ocean causing warming. Because of this process, it affects the Earth in myriad ways both positive and negative. One positive thing that would result without the greenhouse effect is that our planet would have lower temperatures, making it colder. Most species on Earth cannot survive the cold for a long period of time, which will cause them to die and become extinct. However, with it we have stable “warm” climates that help life sustain itself because water can exist in all three of its phases; liquid, gaseous and solid. The liquid phase provides organisms with habitat, drinking water, and helps food thrive. The solid phase, usually ice, provides soil for organisms in colder climates. Meanwhile, the gaseous phase, which is usually water vapor, acts as a greenhouse gas, continuing the cycle to remain constant. Since the greenhouse effect affects the water cycle and the water cycle is fundamental for organisms, this effect is obtained...... middle of paper ...... temperatures that are not suitable for us and for many other organisms inhabit it. However, having too much causes the opposite and creates negative effects. Some of the sinful effects are caused by humans. For example, rising sea levels cause coral bleaching, flooding and the loss of glaciers. Furthermore, I believe that global warming is contributed by both humans and Earth's natural processes. Raising livestock and carbon emissions from products like spray cans and refrigeration are some of the things humans do to accelerate warming to an unusual rate. However, it also arises from natural events such as the Milanovich cycle, the Quasi-natural cycle, and the amount of sunspot activity. Whatever the cause, humans should continue to monitor climate change and prevent further damage to keep our planet stable so we can continue to live on it in the future..
