We all know about the crimes committed every day by people around the world. Theft, assault, auto theft, underage drinking, fraud, prostitution, and rape. But what about Internet crimes? Last year, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) was introduced to the world. If this bill were passed, many sites would have to censor some information, as well as remove much of the content already uploaded. SOPA could also crack down on torrent sites, which are used to share files such as music, movies, video games, e-books and anything else that is a digital file. In my opinion, SOPA should not be passed because censoring information on the Internet is against the First Amendment. SOPA should not be passed because it goes against the First Amendment and will lead to a corrupt information sharing system. One of the main reasons why SOPA should be stopped is because it is directly against the First Amendment. For example, Wikipedia could write articles about a site like The Pirate Bay or Kick A** Torrents, but if they included links to the sites, they could get in trouble with the government for providing their readers with links to sites that support sharing of files online. This would go against free speech. "As the dispute over proposed federal anti-privacy legislation known as SOPA intensifies this week, the website of the open source encyclopedia, Wikipedia, says it will close for 24 hours, starting at midnight Tuesday, to protest what the website warns is a threat to free speech (Wikipedia blackout: why even supporters question the anti-SOPA move). Many people were upset by the blackout, but they clearly understood the message law, which...... middle of paper ......training we are very suitable for their needs. These are just three ways you should really think about if you think SOPA is a good deed. These reasons above are the reason why my personal opinion is that SOPA should not be passed because it would go against many of our rights, including the first amendment. Whether it is the fact that online piracy cannot be stopped, the fact that the first amendment is being violated or that the government is becoming an overly powerful system, SOPA should not be passed to allow these things. So my personal question is: do you really want to live in a world where all shared information is constantly monitored and changed by the government, or do you want to live in a world where you know that what you are viewing is how it is happening in the real world and Do you know that's one hundred percent true? Think about it and choose wisely.
