Topic > Comparison of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Solude Of Self

These examples helped those listening who may not be part of the minorities that King and Stanton were addressing to see what these groups were up against. King does this in his speech when he talks about the trials that many African Americans were facing at the time, including police brutality and illegal detention. These tribulations were extremely widespread at the time of King's speech throughout America. Stanton also does this mostly in his “Statements of Sentiments and Resolutions” speech. She highlights many examples of how women were treated unfairly. For example, he says things like, “Having deprived her of this first right as a citizen, the right to vote, thus leaving her without representation in the legislative halls, he has oppressed her on all sides” (Stanton 1). These and many other examples help everyone looking from the outside to see the struggle these people have had to fight for most of their lives.
