My group chose the film, The Hunger Games, because we felt it depicted clear differences between today's society and the society in the film. This film offers different mentalities and ideas compared to today's modern society. For example, the concepts of socialization, politics and government are different in film society. Furthermore, the United States does not select two members to compete to the death, nor does it divide groups based on power and wealth. Even our government doesn't allow deviance like the movie does. Social changes are also an important factor in the film. These are just some sociology concepts that will be discussed by the group and which touch on the main cultural differences. The first difference I saw in the Hunger Games was that people from different districts shouldn't talk to each other, let alone go to another district. Going to another district was against the law. Katniss didn't like talking to others anyway, being alone in the woods made her more comfortable. She didn't like the socialization factor mostly because she thought she wasn't as good or classy as the others. Her personality traits also suffered from not being more outgoing as a child. She thought that as long as she kept to herself, everything would be fine. Without these social connections, Katniss would have lost key functions in our society today. Katniss has lost her social interaction with many citizens simply by remaining at a distance, without leaving her safe bubble. Katniss didn't really have issues with personal space, but she didn't like being around others. He preferred the wilderness where he could do what he wanted, without having to deal with others. In that... middle of paper... they feel worse about themselves because they aren't as rich or powerful as other districts. Our government today wouldn't do this to us because it wants everyone to feel on the same level as everyone else, and not overwhelmed. The Hunger Games and our society today are similar and yet different in many ways, as is stated. Katniss and Peeta would be considered normal by today's terms and behaviors. In the movie, they look very different from how our society behaves today just because they have to participate in a murder at the young age of 16. He is normally a freshman in high school. Most freshmen aren't ready for that gore or violence yet and wouldn't do well if it were installed in the film. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie, but I don't think our society and their society are similar in many ways.
