Should the 2nd Amendment be revoked or changed? Many Americans would say “No,” saying that guns are dangerous and that times have changed. Others might argue that having the right to bear arms keeps people safe and less threatened by the outside world. Both sides of 2nd Amendment constitutional rights will be discussed in this debate. The upcoming presidential election has influenced voters to roll back our 2nd Amendment rights which could change the democracy our country was founded on. This constitutional right has played a prominent role in our country's leadership since the drafting of the First Ten Amendments. 1787 was the year our country's leaders gathered to discuss how our country should function. The original amendment states that at the moment the government has limited the purchase of firearms only to people who pass certain steps. Gun control has become a controversial topic in the United States today. Many argue that gun control or banning all firearms will help protect and make our country a better place. The reason many want to ban firearms is that the 2nd Amendment is outdated and unjustified in this date and time. Writer Eugene Robinson states that “farmers wrote about “guns,” thinking of muskets and single-shot pistols. They could not have foreseen modern rifles or high-capacity magazines.” Many agree with Robinson that when the Constitution was written they could not have understood what would happen in the future. Citizens also believe that people have no reason to fight against intruders who enter their home, that's what the authorities are for. If people want to defend themselves, why waste time and money on having the police?
