Steroids in Major League BaseballAnabolic steroids have been abused by Major League Baseball players for years, it's time to ban the use of performance-enhancing drugs forever before they ruin the America's past. Why should athletes be allowed to cheat when teammates or rivals compete with honest effort? Every year records are broken and new heights are reached, the game of baseball is very simple but at the same time very humble, and for cheating on the game you love, you will be punished forever. Let me inform you about where PEDs were first used and where they came from, regulation, and a possible solution. The use of testosterone dates back to 1889. Pud Galvin, a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Alleghenys, used an animal-derived testosterone hormone. The first hormones came mainly from pigs and dogs. “Even Babe Ruth, a legendary New York Yankee, attempted to inject himself with sheep testicle extract in 1925.” (Joshua Z.) Steroid use was not common until the 1970s. It is estimated that each team had at least six to seven players they used. It was the 1980s when anabolic steroids exploded on the market. Everyone from future Hall of Famers to newcomers used amphetamines. The use of amphetamines as stimulants became very common and was a problem for the game that began to arouse suspicion. “By the 1990s, steroids had become an epidemic.” (Joshua Z.) In three years, three players, including Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants, Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals and Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs, hit sixty homeruns in seven combined. times. Before that, from 1927 to 1998, only Babe Ruth and Roger Maris had hit more than sixty homeruns in a season. It's just a coincidence that those three players have steroids in common....... middle of paper... time past before it's too late. Major League Baseball and steroids don't mix, now or ever. Saving the game of baseball will be forever grateful in the long run. Believe me when I say that HGH is harmful and stay away from it. Practice makes perfect in athletics, hard work beats talent and drugs any day. Stick with it and take advantage of your skills one day at a time. For all you athletes, pass the word and stay clean.
