Maya Angelou has been considered an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus on her real-life experiences (1). “Phenomenal Woman” falls into the category of poems based on real-life experiences and human truth. As a modernist writer, Maya Angelou uses imagery, symbolism, and repetition to define her own physical characteristics and advise other women to be comfortable in their skin and shapes. The poem is structured in four stanzas made up of short lines. The language of the poem is simple, informal and conveys the message explicitly and powerfully.
