Recent news from Reuters, Bloomberg and others show that the company's Chinese subsidiary (Beijing Century Joyo, acquired a few years ago) has filed with Chinese authorities to handle cargo bound for ports in Japan, Europe and the United States. In the United States it is registered as a sea freight forwarder. Amazon also said in a recent SEC filing that it considers companies that offer logistics and logistics services for itself or third parties to be competitors. Media reports also say that Amazon has a big plan for a global distribution system where it will pick up goods directly from sellers and ship them to end customers. The enormous volume of goods it will handle will allow it to obtain wholesale discounts which, when passed on to small and medium-sized sellers, will make Amazon highly competitive.
