Strain Theory states that people are born innocent and with good intentions but society causes them to commit crimes (quote). After reading this case it appears that Jeanine is a troubled young woman who, due to tensions in her family due to her sexual abuse, has led her to become affiliated with an Aboriginal gang. This gang, however, also took a toll on Jeanine due to the sexual exploitation she faced with them as well. Jeanine is shown to be a very intelligent and athletic girl, which shows her good intentions and innocence in life; but the tension she felt, coming into contact with a gang and feeling important and included in something, perhaps for the first time, led her to commit violent crimes. Her violence and delinquent behaviors may be a form of crying for help because it seems that her mother and father will not give her that form of relief. According to Strain's theory, a young person who hates and/or detests his or her parents should have a higher delinquency rate than another minor who simply does not care about his or her parents.
