For thousands or even millions of years, almost as long as humanity has existed, women have been considered weaker than men. Women were the ones who took care of their homes and cared for their offspring. The men were the heroes who risked their lives in search of food to keep their families alive. Therefore, over the millennia of human civilization, the belief that humans are superior in strength and intelligence is deeply rooted in everyone's minds. Feminism has only become popular in these 50 years. Let's be realistic: can such a "young" ideal replace a belief rooted in thousands of years overnight? Even as we increasingly witness gender equality in our lives, in the back of our minds there is still a difference between men and women. It's true that we women have come a long way in the fight for respect; however, we still have a long way to go. Traditions and irrational beliefs die hard. In some parts of the world, married men having extramarital affairs is considered normal; if a single woman has flirted with a man, she is a whore. If a woman kills herself when she becomes a widow, she is faithful to her love; but if a man does the same, he is stupid. If there is true equality between the sexes, shouldn't men and women be judged equally? Many people, under the influence of popular films, songs and soap operas, believe that women are superficial and fickle. Unfortunately, there is some truth to this. The superficial behavior of superficial women undermines the efforts of countless feminists who fought so hard for the rights we enjoy today. We fight for greater equality and higher status. We speak out against injustice and prejudice. We believe we can do as well as, or even better than, men.
