Sheffield has also dramatically influenced my views on institutional sexism. In this piece alone there were several examples that showed this structure of injustice. One particularly clear example was that “early and prolonged sex role socialization teaches that women are responsible for men's sexual behavior and that women cannot be trusted” (Sheffield, p. 122). This sentence explained exactly how my high school viewed the dress code for women. Girls were not allowed to wear shirts that showed off their underwear, shorts that didn't go past their fingers when they had them at their hips, and their tank tops had to be two fingers wide. After reviewing the list of things that females were not allowed to wear compared to males, many girls at my school were enraged at this policy because they felt it targeted them. The school feared that this type of apparition would distract other students, especially male students. However, the opposite is not true where men are responsible for women's sexual behavior. These are just a few of the many examples of institutional sexism mentioned in the passages as well as mine
