In his book Des Bienfaits de la Depression, Pierre Fédida wrote a chapter entitled 'Il Faut Etre Deux Pour Guérir' in which he explains why it is useful to talk when you are depressed.20 Patients usually believe that talking is not the solution but that the only way to heal is to bring back the lost person/situation whose absence initially caused the trauma. Psychological pain is a human peculiarity and therapy aims to heal it. Fédida gives the example of drug addicts who detoxify. Drug addiction often reveals an alarming state of depression and undergoing treatment for drug addiction is a sign of anguish and the desire to save oneself. Patients have a tendency to try and cure themselves but the therapy helps to remove the patient from their own influence, to free them from their illness. Therapy requires the participation of two actors and healing cannot occur if the therapist does not understand the patient's psychology and resistance to healing.22 Freud focused on the study of opposition to healing and resistance to treatment as he deepened his knowledge of unconscious forces. The therapist defines healing as the goal that creates the patient's resistance. This resistance to therapy can be explained as follows: being treated corresponds to a change in state.
