The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) was established in 1929. Since then it has been dedicated to conservation based on scientific innovations and research. There are five research divisions in FRIM, namely the Forestry and Environment Division, the Forest Biotechnology Division, the Forest Biodiversity Division, the Natural Products Division and the Forest Products Review. During our excursion, we went to a seed technology laboratory and a genetics laboratory, both belonging to the forest biotechnology division. In the seed technology laboratory, we were informed by Pn. Nadiah Salmi Nadzri, a researcher there. In this laboratory, the key research area is natural forest management. This laboratory was equipped with an exhibition space, a drying room, a cold room, a tissue culture room, a growth room and a biosafety cabinet. The exhibition space displayed a wide range of seeds that can be found in FRIM. The seeds are processed by drying in the dryer using a desiccant, followed by waxing.
