Throughout the novel Brave New World the elites are extremely narcissistic and yet idolized by many. In the book the narrator says: “The elevator was crowded with men from the Alpha changing rooms, and Lenina's entrance was greeted with many friendly nods and smiles. She was a popular girl and had spent the night with almost everyone at one time or another” (57). Lenina not only knows she's a popular girl, she seems to flaunt it in Brave New World. In today's society, many studies have been done on the effects of selfishness; some that are described in the Pnas article. The article states: “…upper class individuals were more likely to exhibit unethical decision-making tendencies (study 3), to take valuable goods from others (study 4), to lie in a negotiation (study 5), to cheat to increase their chances of winning a prize (study 6) and support unethical behavior at work (study 7) compared to those of lower class individuals” (para. 1). It is logical that the upper classes believe they can do what they want to get what they want, because societies around the world have supported this behavior by praising upper class people for no reason other than their own
