Scenario 1Duck Dynasty is the number one cable television program on the A& E Network. The Robertsons are a large close-knit family who are devoutly religious and often share their religious beliefs with their viewers. The Robertsons not only have a hit TV show, but they also have a multi-million dollar business called Duck Commander. Duck Commander became famous for his duck calls and from there his success was exceptional. Due to their fame and fortune, the family is often publicized through media interviews. In December 2013, during an interview with GQ magazine, journalist Drew Magary asked Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family, the question: "What to do?" consider it sinful?" (Patriarch Phil Robertson Suspended, 2013) Phil responded with some controversial, reckless statements regarding homosexual behavior. A media storm erupted immediately after Phil's statement was released. The gay rights group GLAAD got involved and publicly condemned his statements stating that "Phil knows nothing about gay people." (Patriarch Phil Robertson suspended, 2013) Thousands of outraged citizens, fans and gay rights activists pressured the A&E network to take a stand against Phil because of his remarks; the network immediately suspended Phil indefinitely. The Robertsons received overwhelming support and many people disagreed with his suspension from the show. Sarah Palin tweeted: “Free speech is kind of endangered: the hatred of those 'intolerant' and the fact of challenging the patriarch of Duck Dynasty for expressing their personal opinions affects all of us." (Patriarch Phil Robertson suspended, 2013) The governor of Louisiana has also publicly criticized the A&E network for its...... middle of paper... playing football. The ethics of care framework would help them address the problem by admitting that a problem exists; the NFL would demonstrate that it believes that all human life is precious and that it is unethical to subject players to dangerous situations on the field. They may coordinate meetings and training sessions with all team members, including players, managers and team personnel. By addressing the issue of concussions and having honest and open communications with the league's players, fans and media, the NFL could also help educate younger players and their parents about the possible risks and dangers of playing a full sport contact like football. This type of education from a young age would stick with football players through high school, college, and even into the professional leagues if the player made it that far.
