Topic > The Effects of Animal Testing - 1477

Tens of millions of animals are killed or maimed each year due to research into the safety and effectiveness of new drugs, chemicals, and consumer products. Even though animals are not humans it doesn't mean they should be used for testing, which is so inhumane. These animals may have a different importance in society than simple experimentation. What is done to animals is usually unsafe and ends up injuring or even dying the animal. This testing, however, is becoming less useful because scientists are creating new ways to perform the tests. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane, resulting in too many animals being injured or killed when safer alternatives become available. Animal testing is very harmful and dangerous to animals. The Humane Society International is aware of the animal experiments. The Society states that “animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force-feeding, forced inhalation, deprivation of food and water, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, infliction of pain to study the healing process." effects and remedies and “killing by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, breaking of the neck, decapitation or other means” (“Should be animals”). The Company explains in detail the testing used to ensure consumers know how badly animals are treated. Additionally, rarely used animals are given medications before procedures to reduce pain. The United States Department of Agriculture reported that “in 2010, 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments without receiving any anesthesia for relief” (“Should Animals”). Animals that are not given any anesthesia are forced to suffer and feel pain in a way that no being should ever have to. Anim...... middle of paper...... 2014.Moxley, Angela.
