Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist and narrator of The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins. These are some of his main traits and how they are represented in the first novel of this trilogy. Protective Katniss is a very protective person throughout the book, particularly towards Primrose, Rue, and Peeta. He will do anything for those he loves and thinks about how his actions will affect his family and friends. Volunteering as a tribute shows how protective she is of Prim, sacrificing her own life for the protection of her sister. Katniss is very protective of twelve-year-old Rue from District 11 because she reminds her of Prim. Katniss formed an alliance with her and this shows in the final moments of Rue's life how protective Katniss was of her. When Katniss heard Rue's high-pitched scream, she started running towards the sound, knowing it could be a trap. After Claudius Templesmith announces if the last two remaining tributes are from the same district, both can claim victory. Katniss automatically forms an alliance with him in his mind. When he finds Peeta he takes care of him and keeps him safe. Later, Claudius announces that there is a banquet at the Cornucopia, instead of watching Peeta die of blood poisoning, Katniss risks her life so that Peeta can get the medicine he needs to heal his leg. Courageous/Perseverant Katniss Everdeen is a very courageous character and it is shown from the beginning of the book when she volunteers to take her sister's place as a tribute. Not being afraid to do what she needs is what makes Katniss brave. She has a very determined mentality and will not give up without trying, even when she is injured. Going into The Hunger Games Katniss thought she had very little chance of winning and... middle of paper... she doesn't like being told what she can and can't do. He breaks the rules, including those of the Capitol, to survive at home, hunting illegally in the woods to provide for his family, and in the Hunger Games, breaking the rule that allows only one winner. Her stubbornness shows in moments like refusing to let Prim take the card, even when their family didn't have enough food and she didn't trust Peeta at first because she thought he was being nice to her just to get inside her. Another event that proves that Katniss is stubborn occurs before the interview with Caesar Flickerman, Haymitch has a pep talk with Katniss and suggests that she seem nicer and more humble. He also tells her to talk more about her family and the things she cares about, but she refuses to agree with the strategy because she doesn't want the Capitol to know too much about her life in the District. 12.
