Music Videos ("Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing tool") (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music-video). they have had a strong influence on society in ideological terms over the years. Music videos create certain images, trends that society is influenced by, society follows the trend but not only in clothing but also in behavior. Music videos are made as if they were movies, and musical artists act a certain way, dress a certain way, and portray themselves in horrible ways that society now deems acceptable. Therefore, music videos influence society's behavior, both in terms of personality and physical appearance, and have made what was once unacceptable acceptable. Ideology "is a set of opinions or beliefs of a group or individual" that can also influence the behavior of an individual or group (http://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/ideology). Media literacy is “enabling people to analyze, evaluate, and create messages in a wide variety of media modalities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Literacy). Media literacy skills are the ability to “analyze and evaluate” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Literacy). Used to identify ideologies conveyed by the media or to evaluate how the media influences the ideologies of society, the public should use media literacy skills to not believe everything the media says and to have their own opinion. Music videos influence society's ideologies, changing beliefs which also influence behavioral patterns. Music videos change people's beliefs because what was once acceptable a few years ago may not be acceptable now, society changes with history. Nowadays, 21st century music and many others are...... middle of paper...... stereotypes (http://mediabeauchamp.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/analysing -music -video.pdf).Therefore, music videos influence society's behavior both in terms of personality and physical appearance, and have made what was once unacceptable acceptable. Music videos have changed over the years as nowadays/21st century everything including music videos is sold through sex, fashion is sexier and this influences younger generations to dress sexy and to have an attitude, their behavior changes, many of the music videos create an unrealistic world that the audience perceives realistically and becomes an expectation for the audience. Society should require media literacy skills in order to analyze and evaluate the message portrayed through the media, so that they are not manipulated into believing/being gullible towards all media messages.
