I have had surgery to correct a vision problem and ear tubes to help with ear infections. By speaking out on these issues, I do a lot to help catch up with my peers. My parents, especially my mother, were deeply involved in helping me succeed. She attended meetings, kept informed of my progress, and most importantly, was my biggest support system. From an early age I knew how important parental involvement in education was. The fact that people cared about my success was all the motivation I needed. During my special education classes, I developed a love for reading. Of course, I developed this adoration for books thanks to my special education classes. I firmly believe that without these lessons my love of reading would not have arisen because I would have become frustrated with falling behind in my education. I avoid difficult subjects, like math, because I'm not good at it. By getting the help I need, I have been able to excel at reading. I enjoyed reading so much that I entered a reading contest that I won three years in a row. Because of my love for reading, the desire to do so arose
