Our ancestors needed a constant shift in attention to survive, but we have since evolved towards this mental discipline. The Internet is what is making us return to the way of thinking of our ancestors and perhaps even making our brains worse. III. Quote 1 “When we are constantly distracted and interrupted, as we tend to be online, our brains are unable to create strong, expansive neural connections that give depth and distinctiveness to our thinking” (Carr 22). The quote says that the more we are online, the more our brain is unable to become itself and we lose depth in our thinking. We must not lose this because it is the main thing that makes us who we are, how thinking differently makes us unique individuals. IV. Quote 2 “What we seem to sacrifice in all our browsing and searching is our ability to engage in quieter, more attentive modes of thought that support contemplation, reflection, and introspection” (Carr 23).
