Freire states that it is an advantage for the “oppressive society” to treat students as “repositories” (216) because the more students absorb information “the less they develop critical consciousness [and ] the more they completely accept the passive role imposed on them” (217). If students are forced into a passive role, simply accepting what they are told and what is expected of them, society is able to create an environment they like, forcing students into the roles they desire
