Some of the strategies that can help prevent the high rate of burnout among nurses include social and psychological support, as well as empowerment. An organization's ability to retain nurses depends primarily on creating an environment conducive to professional autonomy (Hatmaker, 2014, p. 227). Organizations should create an open environment where nurses have an avenue for mutual support. Examples of programs that may involve mutual support between nurses include sharing the workload among team members. Additionally, organizations should create time for social interaction among nursing teams. This can be done through social events such as annual retreats. Social events help address burnout by building trust and a strong bond between nurses (Portnoy, 2011). The other strategy to address nurse burnout is supervisor support. Healthcare facilities should encourage meetings between nurses and supervisors to talk about issues that affect their work. In addition to receiving support from colleagues and supervisors, nurses need to be empowered. One way to empower them is to provide them with better wages and compensation. The other way is to take advantage of opportunities to improve your education, for example by reimbursing your tuition fees. They should also have the opportunity to move up the professional ladder, for example through promotions. Nurses also need psychological empowerment
