This includes the closet era, the coming out era, and the post-gay era. The Closet Era was the time when gay people's sexuality and identity were not socially accepted. In this age of secrecy, many gay individuals hide their sexuality and live lives with double standards (Seidman, 1999). Many homosexual individuals were expected to go through life with the appearance of being heterosexual. Those who do not meet the essential requirement of being heterosexual were classified in the DMI-I with the pathological mental disorder (American Psychiatric Association,
