Homelessness is a global problem that leaves many of us wondering why this problem exists and how we can solve this problem that affects hundreds of thousands of people. While most members of the public may have many different ways of imagining homelessness and how it affects people, economies, and the humanities, sociologists may view this problem in several ways. I have never experienced being homeless, but I have seen many people on the streets begging for food or money. Some may simply need a helping hand; others may have been alcoholics or drug addicts. Most homeless people have made some critical mistakes in their lives and need help. There are many people who live paycheck to paycheck and are on the verge of becoming homeless themselves. Before you can belittle a homeless person, imagine yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if you were homeless? I know I wouldn't like to beg every day. I think a lot of times people avoid homelessness because they're afraid. Visualizing a human being living dirty and not being liked by others would be a difficult task at hand. Even though you are living life, you never know when you might get prosecuted, lose your job, or have a stroke etc. that could change your life and go in that direction. People believe that homeless people are bad and that's why they are homeless. I have been volunteering for a long time and I can say that there are good and bad homeless people. I believe some are looking for assistance, but most want their pride back. Homeless people don't appear to be very needy. If you offered them your friendship, your time, and your respect, that would go a long way in the eyes of a homeless person. People today worry... middle of paper... silent. approach. It is important for homeless people to maintain an existence and not be seen as an outcast by others. Postmodernism, as reflected in homelessness, means that homeless people choose to become homeless because the rest of the problems they face in life are too difficult for them to handle. Additionally, some homeless people may choose to use alcohol and/or drugs to justify their choice to be homeless. The four sociological perspectives provide a brief detailed description of how different types of sociologists would consider how disturbing and complex the social issue is. However, the above examples of postmodernist symbolic interactionist, functionalist, conflict, and theoretical responses to homelessness represent how these four perspectives would address a problem that has proven to be a persistent and difficult issue to resolve..
