Socrates made people feel humiliated, ashamed and above all unwise. The ironic part is that after the civilians talked to Socrates they felt like they knew nothing when they thought they knew everything, which was infuriating. All these emotions eventually spread to all these civilians, which got people talking. They wanted Socrates put to death for the way he made them feel and these civilians were the ones who helped try him for it. These people were not satisfied with having someone prove them wrong and they needed to be right about everything. Socrates' belief system proved to work as he was attracting so many enemies along the way. He states: “I found that famous men were all but the silliest; and that others less esteemed were really wiser and better” (Plato 64). To arrive at this conclusion, Socrates talked to all kinds of people; the poor, the rich, the intelligent, the ignorant and so on. Intelligent people in his eyes were not very intelligent, just very foolish; while humble people who worked every day of their lives and understood the value of a dollar were the wisest to him.
