Dance is an art. It's a way for people to express themselves. The dancers in the dance concert really showed their passion for dance. They were happy to be there, happy to dance. The three pieces I chose to write about are Australis choreographed by Paul Maley, On This Earth I Will Dance choreographed by Jose Silva, and Far Nearer choreographed by Jonathan Alsberry. I really enjoyed these dances because they were really expressive and used a lot of interesting dance moves. The first dance I chose to talk about was Australis choreographed by Paul Maley. There were many things I liked about this dance. In this dance there are many jumps and leaps. There were many times when they would roll around on the floor to get to somewhere else. I noticed that there was often a chain reaction movement where one person would make the move, and then the next person would do the same thing, and so on. I noticed there were many different groups. Sometimes there were a lot of people and sometimes there were only two. I liked the numerical difference because sometimes it's harder to focus on a group of people rather than a couple of people. They mostly have happy expressions, as if they are excited. Their costumes were black tops and rainbow-colored pants. I liked their costumes because they were different colors and quite simple. The music is sometimes slow and sometimes fast. When it gets fast, it's a little suspenseful. The reason I chose this dance was because it had a lot of dance moves that were inspiring to watch and also because I thought their costumes were beautiful. The second dance is called On this earth I will dance with choreography by Jose Silva. For this dance, I noticed for the first time that they were all facing differently… to the center of the paper… excited about the dance. There were no words in the music for the dance, but the music was happy and didn't seem like it was meant to be sad. Like the other dances, I noticed there were chain reaction movements. The dances Australis, On This Earth I Will Dance and Much Closer all seemed to have things in common. I noticed that most of them had differences in the number of dancers on stage. They also all had chain reaction movements. I liked how they made it seem like everything was easy when in reality they had to use a lot of strength to actually perform the movements. They were very careful to be on time and get where they needed to be. I think this is something I need to try to do more often because I have a lot of free time and need to fix this. The dance concert was a beautiful experience seeing dance live and experiencing it for the first time.
