In the United States of America there are many problems plaguing our nation. Gun control is an issue about which there is much controversy. This is an issue that reignited when a school in Connecticut was attacked on December 14, 2012. Since then, numerous bills have been introduced. (Focus on gun control in US shifts to US year after Newtown shooting) There are many issues that we have in our community with gun control that we have controversy about: background checks, age, classes, weapons military, pistols, rifles and shotguns. All of these things are part of the plague of our nation. On December 14, 2012, Alex Lanza used a Bushmaster AR-15, killed twenty first graders and six adults. (Fired Up) Alex Lanza did not have a permit to carry a concealed handgun; it is not known whether he had adequate training. (Clint Best) After Lanza committed this horrific act of violence, people began to push for gun control laws with greater fury. Lanza was thought to have Asperger's syndrome but this was never confirmed. Lanza opened the door to many gun lobbyists and vice versa to gun control advocates. One way gun control advocates have tried to reduce the number of guns issued to citizens of the United States of America is to require background checks. Some guns have background checks done, but they want a full background check for crimes, mental issues, appropriate classes, safety precautions to name a few. Background checks would ensure that if you have any kind of criminal record you will be given a second look and ensure that you are eligible to own a gun. The reason laws are passed into legislation is to ensure the protection of our Second Amendment. Make sure every American has the same right to bear a gun, regardless of age, but whether he or she is eligible to own a gun.
