Alexander the Great is known as one of the most ruthless and greatest leaders the world has ever seen. In less than ten years, Alexander conquered cities from Greece to modern India. Not only did he defeat and conquer cities throughout the known world, but Alexander also left his mark by spreading and influencing Greek society wherever he went. His leadership and conquests united the East and West as a whole as none had ever done before. His impact on culture and society when he combined his Greek background with the conquered cities became something truly unique. In 323 BC, when Alexander died, he not only left behind a vast and thriving empire, but also a legacy that would be remembered throughout history. Alexander is now recognized as one of the greatest leaders who ever lived. Alexander ascended the throne at the age of twenty. Alexander's leadership is one that many leaders try to imitate. The key component of his ability to lead was having the trust of his men. His men trusted him to have the best interest not only for them but also for his kingdom as a whole. With this confidence, Alexander was able to lead his men into any city without. Alexander was also not shy in battles. During battles he mainly led from the front where he was easily recognized and a target for enemies. His courage was an example to his men and in return Alexander was always rewarded with a victory. His ruthlessness combined with his tolerance is one of the most ironic and admirable traits he had. Alexander was known for his ruthless behavior when it came to battles with other kingdoms. He held nothing back and punished all who fought against him. That said, Alexander would rarely get hurt... middle of paper... but the spread of Greek culture, language, and art continued into modern China, where Alexander never set foot. This is a testament to how much Greek culture was involved in Alexander's vast empire. The universal language in Alexander's empire was Greek, which led to easy trade and easily solvable problems. Alexander dreamed of having a huge empire and uniting men. Both of these goals were achieved within a decade. Even after his death the Greek language continued, as did many other customs. Alexander the Great, a fitting name given to a man who achieved everything he set out to do. Alexander was the definition of a great king. He showed his ruthlessness when necessary, but was committed to uniting men for the greater good. His leadership, military tactics and character cannot be questioned and the legacy he left behind is the reason why Alexander is “great”.
