The term ―Narcoanalysis‖ derives from the Greek word ―nark, which means anesthesia. Narcoanalysis means psychoanalysis that uses drugs to induce a state of sleep. Narcoanalysis is used as a tool for criminal investigations. The accused, witness or suspect is given chemical drugs like sodium pentothal by the police or investigating agencies to make him fall into a hypnotic state so as to make him reveal some information which he may be reluctant to reveal while in conscious state. The Narcoanalysis test is based on the principle that a person is able to lie using his imagination and, under the influence of some barbiturates, this imagination ability is blocked or neutralized by bringing the person into a state of semi-consciousness. It becomes difficult for the person to lie and his answers would be limited to the facts he knows about. The history of narcoanalytic interrogation dates back to the early centuries, when doctors used the drug to induce a feeling of drowsiness in various operations. These drugs were then used exclusively for medical reasons, but with time and evolution, different uses of these drugs have occurred. Later, in 1922, for the first time in history, these drugs were used for police investigations. Robert House, a Texas obstetrician, conducted a two-prisoner experiment in which he interviewed two scopolamine-induced prisoners whose guilt seemed clearly confirmed. With this came the historic Aurora massacre case where for the first time the judge ruled that a medically appropriate drug would be used to prove the culprit's insanity. This may be the first time a court has mandated the use of so-called "truth serum" in a sanity evaluation, after there have been many cases where truth serum was... middle of paper.. .f investigation that encourages the non-voluntary form of investigation and does not require the prior consent of the accused for the first. This type of investigation becomes heinous when the accused is tested in his sleepy form without his consent. The form of the investigation violates the fundamental rights prescribed by the Constitution, makes a mockery of the guarantee of liberty and freedom with impunity. The narcotics analysis form of investigation includes methods such as drug induction which in many cases can prove fatal, thus encouraging the prohibition of such a life-threatening form of investigation. This form of investigation should be highly discouraged as it opens the door to flooding and can lead to unpleasant consequences. It violates the Constitution itself and some provisions of the CrPC, therefore it is necessary to take measures to remove it from the form of investigation.
