Topic > Racial Profiling - 1076

Racial profiling is serious discrimination against certain ethnic races. Contrary to popular belief, racial profiling can happen anytime, anywhere. It is important to realize that racial profiling is disrespectful to the people being targeted and is a crime. People should not be targeted just because of their race or color. Racial profiling has become one of the most controversial practices widely used, knowingly or unknowingly, in police departments, airport security systems, and other government agencies around the world. There have been numerous incidents around the world where people have been arrested, detained and even beaten because of their ethnicity. A good example is the incident that happened last April. A man named Isaac Williams was arrested after taking his daily, doctor-prescribed "walks." Peel Regional Police are currently investigating a break-in. Williams was spotted, detained in a patrol car and questioned by an officer who repeatedly yelled at him. However, it doesn't end there, after Williams' release there was a press conference where it was stated that if Williams had been a different race he would not have been interviewed. Williams is filing a lawsuit against Peel Regional Police. Incidents like the Williams case happen frequently around the world. While racial profiling is a shameful method, some would argue that it is a necessary measure to keep the world safe from unwanted threats. They will argue that racial profiling is an important measure to ward off terrorist activity and catch criminals who may be smuggling drugs or human trafficking. However, there are better ways to identify these criminals. Behavioral profiling should be the primary form of identifying potential criminals because, instead of using race as a key point in identifying potentially threatening criminals, behavioral profiling uses someone's behavior to identify criminals. This method will not discriminate against people of different races and will be more efficient than racial profiling. Racial profiling has begun to spread in too many places around the world; We must let the world know that arresting people based solely on their race is a discriminatory and wrong practice. For some people, racial profiling is considered "morally wrong." This means that it is like putting some races in a lower class and putting other races in a higher class. This practice is wrong because in most countries we believe that all people are equal and deserve to be treated equally.
