Topic > Advantages and Disadvantages of Contraception - 1698

Some of the most common contraceptive methods are the pill, sterilization, condoms, the coil and the vaginal ring. Personally I would use the LARC method, methods include intrauterine device (IUD) and contraceptive implant. “It is the most widely used contraceptive in the world” (Alexander 118) There are several benefits that come with using LARC methods. First, these methods can last 5 to 10 years and are "20 times more effective than the birth control pill, patch and ring." Secondly, they are reversible, so if a woman changes her mind and wants to get pregnant, it can be eliminated. Removal is said to be quicker and easier than the procedure to insert it. Some friends have told me it's quite comfortable and they can't even say it, and neither can their partner. Third, it does not require daily attention and cannot be seen or heard. Once inserted you don't have to remember to do anything with it. For teenagers busy with school and other activities this would be a plus. Plus, if they're trying to keep it a secret from someone, they don't have to worry about it being seen. Lastly, it's a small contraceptive device, so it won't be a nuisance. Other benefits include a decrease in menstrual pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. It can cost much less than other insured contraceptives. LARC is simply better at everything
