What is a typical day like (if there is such a thing)? That is, what are the actual things you do in a workday? There's really no such thing as a typical day here, I mean, you come in expecting things, but then it may or may not go that way. Basically, every day, I help clients with a variety of things such as finding work, being more self-sufficient, looking at their finances and bills to figure out how to spend money wisely, domestic violence, and medications. If you could practice another area of social work, what would it be and why? If I could do anything else, it would definitely be fostering. Fostering was what initially attracted me, but this was actually the only job available at the time. What advice would you give to someone considering social work as a career? I would tell him to be careful to compartmentalize everything, that is, to keep working at work and at home at home, and not mix them. I have had colleagues who were unable to do this, which made it very difficult for them to do their jobs. The other thing is to make sure you take care of yourself first, because if you can't take care of yourself, you can't take care of yourself.
