Some accreditation programs include NAEYC, National Association for the Education of Young Children, NECPA, National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (Douglass 89-94); and Pennsylvania-specific, Keystone Stars. If a daycare receives NAYEC accreditation, then it is the crème de la crème of early childhood programs. Parents recognize NAEYC accreditation as a mark of high quality and are more likely to send their children to that daycare. NAEYC accredited centers have a stronger team of teachers, administrators and families working together to improve quality for children (Why NAEYC Accreditation). NECPA accreditation in child care centers also attracts families to register their center there because they know their child will receive quality care. This accreditation program evaluates the quality of interaction between adults and children, staffing facilities, health and safety; physical environment, administration and relationships with parents and community (encourage quality, recognize excellence). Keystone Stars is a continuous quality improvement program. It has four star levels, one means just starting and four means the highest quality. Keystone Stars establishes early childhood education program requirements to promote the best learning environment and safest context possible for every child. A Keystone Stars program offers children individual attention, daily learning activities, a safe, friendly and respectful environment; self-esteem, a well-educated staff, and parental and community involvement (A Parent's Guide to Choosing Quality Child Care). Program accreditation is one way child care centers provide the best possible care that promotes the social, emotional and cognitive development of young children... at the heart of the paper... meeting children's needs and of staff.Children who participate in quality early learning programs tend to be more successful later in school. They are also more socially and emotionally competent. Additionally, these children show higher verbal and intellectual development during early childhood than children who do not participate in early learning programs (A Parent's Guide to Choosing Quality Child Care). For a child care center to be a quality center, it must have an educated staff, an accredited program, and good health and safety practices. Parents choose high-quality child care for many reasons. These programs prepare children for school in which they acquire intellectual and social skills. The programs are also a good opportunity for children because they receive age-appropriate learning materials and activities to allow children to learn and grow.
