Exceptional students are able to advance and grow with individualized arrangements and accommodations established by a team of individuals. Heward (2013) explains that special education is established to help children become functioning, contributing members in school and humanity. All students learn differently and should be treated as individuals. I have four children and they all learn in different ways. By understanding how each of my children learns, I can better help them excel in school. Exceptional children should expect the same treatment as those in the general class. They also learn differently and should be treated as individuals. Educators must understand the resources and difficulties of an exceptional child and teach his strengths to improve his weaknesses. According to Heward, teachers should use research-backed teaching methods and should measure student performance in an effort to ensure that children receive a great education. Making sure that every child's needs are met and that they receive a quality education is a teacher's most important job
